Ordinary Everyday Objects Strangely Suspended in Mid-Air - My ...

Anything Can Fly is a clever photo series produced by Sweden-based photographer Carl Kleiner. The inventive artist draws on clean, organized compositions and soft color palettes to form his visually pleasing portfolio. This particular project was commissioned for an Avios ad campaign, a company experienced in an air travel and leisure points reward system. Using the company's slogan "Anything Can Fly," Kleiner organized everyday items, suspended in mid-flight against a sky blue background. Each thing seen in the photographs can be acquired through the Avios system by cashing in accumulated points.

Pairing objects that function together, but also sometimes contradict, Kleiner playfully presents each scene by flipping the frame in any direction but right-side up. The result are these visually tricky and gravity-defying compositions. Not a drop of pink paint drips from the upside-down paint can and a pair of sparkly gold shoes hover mid-air among a collection of snacks and beauty products. In his ever-humorous style, Kleiner brings us another incredible, visual delight.

Kleiner has a great portfolio of pretty hilarious artwork, including this photographic series of a man in different stages of shaving off his hair.

Why children with asthma are more likely to be bullied

ScienceDaily (Sep. 2, 2012) ? New research has uncovered several factors which could explain why children with asthma are at an increased risk of being bullied.

The study, presented today (2 September 2012) at the European Respiratory Society's Annual Congress in Vienna, highlights the need for doctors to talk to children with asthma about bullying, as well as the impact the disease could be having in other areas of their life.

Bullying or teasing of children with any chronic medical condition is common, yet it is not always clear what factors contribute to this. Researchers from the Derbyshire Children's Hospital, in the UK, used data from the large six-country "Room to Breathe" survey of childhood asthma, to look at the factors associated with an increased risk of bullying.

Parents and children aged 7 years and above were interviewed as part of the study. Data was collected from 943 questionnaires which asked questions about conditions at home, lifestyle of parents and children and their overall experience of their condition.

The results revealed a number of factors associated with an increased risk of bullying. Factors such as a reduced participation with sport and feelings of sadness were significantly associated with an increased risk of bullying. Additionally, factors that could be improved, such as poor asthma control, parental smoking and parents' on-going worries about their child's health, were also associated with bullying.

Dr Will Carroll, from the Derbyshire Children's Hospital, said: "Our findings emphasise the need for doctors and nurses to speak to their patients about the effects their condition has on all aspects of their life. We know that bullying is associated with asthma and these findings can help us understand why this is case.

"A number of the factors identified are things that can be changed, such as participation in sport, asthma control and parental worry over their child's health. As doctors, we must work with families to ensure these risk factors are removed and work with schools and teachers to ensure children with asthma are able to participate in sports at a level that is safe for them."

David Supple, the parent of an asthma sufferer, said: ""When you have a child with exercise-induced asthma it can be really hard to get them to participate. You can be scared to push them -- but the health and social benefits far outweigh the fear, and can help build a lifetime of confidence against bullying. We have made a real effort to include our son, Alex in as much sport as we can to ensure that he isn't excluded from different groups and to keep a wide balance of friends."

Florida Baptists to deploy in ?second wave? response to Hurricane Isaac destruction

FBDR leader says Issac just as heartbreaking as other major events if ?it floods your house & knocks

?JACKSONVILLE (FBW)-While hordes of Southern Baptist Disaster Relief volunteers closest to Louisiana and Mississippi will work through Labor Day weekend to help those displaced by massive flooding caused by Hurricane Isaac, Florida Baptist Disaster Relief workers will be part of a ?second wave? of responders in the aftermath of the storm that surged ashore on the anniversary of Hurricane Katrina.

Isaac made landfall as a Category 1 Hurricane in southeast Louisiana Aug. 28 before crawling up the coast towards New Orleans, lashing out with high winds and torrential rain, much like Tropical Storm Debby, which hit Florida?s Gulf Coast in Steinhatchee June 26.

Debby caused significant flooding, especially in Central and North Florida along the I-10 corridor, and was responsible for nine deaths.

Fritz Wilson, team strategist for the Florida Baptist Convention?s Disaster Relief and Recovery Team, said Florida Baptists only recently wrapped up a month-long response to Debby, but are expected to respond to Isaac by Sept. 8.

Florida?s volunteers are set to arrive in Louisiana and Mississippi as the water from widespread flooding finally recedes.?

Storms like Isaac and Debby are not considered as devastating as Hurricane Katrina, a Category 5 storm, Wilson told Florida Baptist Witness, but the potential for heartbreak is the same.

?My heart along with those of Florida Baptists? aches with those of the people in Mississippi and Louisiana as they suffer and deal with the long road of recovery,? Wilson said, ?because we have experienced it many times before ourselves.?

?It is their Katrina, it is their Andrew, or Haiti earthquake,? Wilson said, reflecting on closeness of the 20-year anniversary of Hurricane Andrew. ?If it?s ?just? a Category 1 Isaac and it floods your house and it knocks your trees down, it?s just as devastating and you?re still a person in need.?

Wilson, who helped amass 6,500 currently active and trained volunteers?from a peak of nearly 9,000 post-Katrina ? in his 16 years in Florida, leaves for Alpharetta, Ga., next month where takes on role of new executive director of Disaster Relief for the Southern Baptist Convention?s North American Mission Board.

While many states watch their own shores, Florida Baptists also keep an eye out for how Haiti and Cuba might be affected as storms roll off the Coast of Africa. Florida Baptists have strong international ministry partnerships in both nations.

Pentagon Threatens Legal Action Against Ex-SEAL For Bin Laden ...

No Easy Day, a controversial book about the killing of Osama Bin Laden by an ex-Navy SEAL involved in the mission, is drawing the attention of Pentagon lawyers, according to a report by Reuters.

The book is set to be released on Sept. 4, less than a month after it was announced by Dutton with a Sept. 11 publication date. The publisher advanced it a week amidst a wave of publicity.

The book is described as a first hand account of the killing by a SEAL who was on the ground in Bin Laden's compound in AbbottabadPakistan. Early leaks suggest the book differs from official accounts in important ways, alleging that the terrorist leader was not reaching for a gun when American soldiers shot him.

Now Reuters reports that the Pentagon is considering legal action against Matt Bissonnette, the SEAL who wrote the book under the pen name Mark Owen, for breaking a non-disclosure agreement he signed with the Navy.

The news service quotes a letter from Pentagon lawyer Jeh Johnson arguing, "In the judgment of the Department of Defense, you are in material breach and violation of the non-disclosure agreements you signed. Further public dissemination of your book will aggravate your breach and violation of your agreements."

The controversy over the book and its author boosted No Easy Day to the top of Amazon's sales chart in the week before publication.

Steven Spielberg denied a report that he was considering adapting the book for film.

Kathryn Bigelow's movie about the raid,?Zero Dark Thirty, which itself has been the subject of debate about its sources and potential impact on the election, is scheduled for release in Dec.

Vaughn wrote emails about new life in Canada, friend testifies

Dozens of detailed emails written by Christopher Vaughn to a friend he met on a social networking website depict a man planning to fake his own death and leave his wife and children behind for a new life in the Canadian wilderness.
?
The friend, Steve Willott of Ontario, Canada, read the lengthy messages aloud today in Will County court at Vaughn's trial on charges he killed his wife and three children in 2007. Willott said he and Vaughn talked about planning an extended camping trip in British Columbia or the Northwest Territories.
?
"I have been married for a long time and it was just really a few years ago I woke up and realized it was not going to work, and I did not want to be obligated to live this lifestyle until I am dead," Vaughn wrote in one email in February 2007, four months before the killings.
?
He wrote to Willott that his wife, Kimberly, will "be just fine" because he planned to fake his own death so she could collect on a large life insurance policy he had taken out on himself.
?
"Maybe she'll find someone who really has their mind in the game," Vaughn wrote.
?Vaughn also pictured what his perfect day would be 20 years in the future. He said it included waking up at dawn to chop wood, carrying back water from the lake, fishing, hunting and whittling arrows in the late-afternoon sun.?

The email exchanges between Vaughn and Willott began in late 2006 when the pair met on the website "43 Things." They quickly realized they had a lot in common and were both interested in ditching life in the fast lane for a solitary one living off the land, Willott testified.
?
Over the next eight months, Vaughn and Willott wrote to each other almost daily. The messages read in court were all from Vaughn and go on at length about meticulous plans he was making for his trip, including fashioning homemade hunting bows and arrows and outfitting packs and sleds with survival gear.
?
Vaughn wrote he was also planning a weeklong "scouting" trip to Canada in May.
?
Vaughn seemed preoccupied with every detail, from what he would be able to bring across the border to the cover story he would use with Canadian police if necessary. He talked about surviving in the cold, his prowess in skinning deer and wondered if he could grow red peppers in the northern climates to make his delicious spicy beef jerky.
?
"I have a tendency to over-plan," Vaughn wrote in one email. Later, however, he wrote that "being a little over-prepared never hurts."
