EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) ? The San Francisco 49ers were coming off a stunning road loss, angry and missing home.

They headed back with an impressive win and looked again as though they're one of the NFL's elite teams.

Carlos Rogers returned a fumble 51 yards for a touchdown, and Frank Gore, Kendall Hunter and backup quarterback Colin Kaepernick ? on a wildcat-style option ? all ran for scores as the 49ers cruised to a 34-0 victory over the New York Jets on Sunday.

"After the last game," linebacker Aldon Smith said of San Francisco's 24-13 loss at Minnesota last week, "some people were questioning us and we knew what we were capable of."

Rex Ryan's Jets, meanwhile, have plenty to answer for right now, which is why he sent his players home for two days to do some soul searching.

"I apologize for my language," said Ryan, so angry that he had trouble even getting started. "I was going to say we got our butt kicked, but really ... there's no two ways, in or outs about it."

San Francisco (3-1) used a solid running game that gained 245 yards, a smothering defense, a little bit of the wildcat-style offense and even blocked a punt to improve to 4-0 following losses under coach Jim Harbaugh.

Instead of heading back to the West Coast last Sunday, Harbaugh had his team stay in eastern Ohio and practice at Youngstown State all week. It worked last season, when they followed a win at Cincinnati with a victory at Philadelphia. Well, the 49ers might have a new home away from home.

"I think the whole week we had more edge," quarterback Alex Smith said. "We had a bad taste in our mouth the whole week. I don't think that goes away after a day. There's no 24-hour rule. The loss sits around and you talk about it."

And, the 49ers figured out how to put it way behind them.

"This is more the way we are accustomed to playing," Harbaugh said.

Ryan took no solace from the Jets (2-2) losing to one of the NFL's best. After all, San Francisco plays the way Ryan wishes his team did.

"It's obviously unacceptable," Ryan said. "It starts with the coaches. The players ... they've got to dig deep, look down at themselves."

It was San Francisco's first shutout since beating the St. Louis Rams 26-0 last December. New York's last shutout loss was 9-0 to Green Bay on Oct. 31, 2010, and it was the Jets' biggest home shutout loss since falling 37-0 to Buffalo in 1989.

Meanwhile, the Jets lost top wide receiver Santonio Holmes to what appeared to be a serious left foot injury. If Holmes misses significant time, the Jets would be without their two biggest playmakers after All-Pro cornerback Darrelle Revis was likely lost for the season with a torn ligament in his left knee last week at Miami.

"We've got to play with who we've got," quarterback Mark Sanchez said. "None of those guys are going to get better overnight."

On the first play of the fourth quarter, Holmes caught a pass from Sanchez for 4 yards, but his left leg appeared to go out on him. The ball flew out of his hands, and Rogers picked it up and returned it for a score.

Holmes left the stadium in a golf cart, holding crutches, his left foot in a boot.

Ryan said Friday that the Jets would wait to put Revis on injured reserve until he has surgery in a few weeks, keeping him available in case New York goes to the Super Bowl. If the Jets play like this the rest of the way, getting to the playoffs will be a tall task.

The struggles on offense have also started many to wonder if it's time to let Tebow play more at quarterback ? or maybe even start instead of Sanchez.

"I don't think that's the answer," Ryan said. "I think Mark's the answer at quarterback."

But he added: "Again, time will tell."

Sanchez had another poor game, going 13 of 29 for 103 yards and an interception. New York also finished with just 45 yards rushing. Tebow, meanwhile, had a limited role again, rushing twice for no yards, but completed his first pass with the Jets: a 9-yard toss to Dedrick Epps, who injured his right knee on the play.

"I'm ready to do whatever they ask me to," Tebow said.

Alex Smith was efficient, going 12 of 21 for 143 yards and no touchdowns, but more importantly, no interceptions.

The wildcat-style offense worked early ? but for the 49ers and not Tebow and the Jets.

Instead, it was Kaepernick who put the 49ers up 7-0 early in the second quarter, taking a direct snap and running untouched off left end for a 7-yard touchdown. Kaepernick also had a 17-yard run earlier in the game, and a 30-yard scamper late.

With just over a minute left in the first half, the 49ers were aggressive despite starting the drive at their 26. A 23-yard catch by Vernon Davis on first down got things rolling, and San Francisco ended the half on David Akers' 36-yard field goal.

Boos and some chants of "Tee-boww! Tee-boww!" rang out as the Jets went three-and-out for the second straight possession in the second half. It never got any better for New York.

"Guys are just upset and frustrated," Sanchez said. "This is not the way we imagined this game going."

NOTES: Mario Manningham, a Super Bowl hero with Giants before joining the Niners as free agent, returned to the Meadowlands and had three catches for 47 yards, plus a 28-yard gain on an end-around. ... Akers also missed from 55 and 40 yards wide right. ... New York lost fullback John Conner with a hamstring injury. ... San Francisco got 62 yards rushing from Gore, 56 from Hunter and 50 from Kaepernick.

UNITED NATIONS (AP) ? Syria's foreign minister brought his regime's case before the world Monday, accusing the U.S. and its allies of promoting "terrorism" and blaming everyone from neighbors and extremists to the media for escalating the war ? except the Syrian government.

Addressing ministers and diplomats from the United Nation's 193 member states as fighting spread in the historic Old City of Aleppo, Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem lashed out at calls in Washington and in Arab and European capitals for Assad to step down as interference in Syria's domestic affairs.

Al-Moallem blamed international organizations for prolonging the crisis and denounced countries such as the U.S., Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkey for supporting the opposition's "terrorism."

"This terrorism which is externally supported is accompanied by unprecedented media provocation based on igniting religious extremism sponsored by well-known states in the region," he told the U.N. General Assembly.

Members of the opposition said it was common knowledge that these neighboring Arab countries were supporting and financing the rebels, but said the Assad government had brought it upon itself after cracking down on protests that began peacefully 18 months ago.

"It is the regime's mindless, brutal and criminal, military crackdown that pushed the Syrian people to ask for help from the international community, from NATO and from the devil himself if necessary to protect them," Haitham Manna, a Paris-based veteran Syrian dissident who heads the external branch of the National Coordination Body opposition group, told The Associated Press.

Al-Moallem's speech followed his meeting with Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in which the U.N. chief "raised in the strongest terms the continued killings, massive destruction, human rights abuses, and aerial and artillery attacks committed by the government," according to a statement by his press office. "He stressed that it was the Syrian people who were being killed every day, and appealed to the Government of Syria to show compassion to its own people."

The Syrian foreign minister in his address invited the opposition to "work together to stop the shedding of Syrian blood" and said that a Syrian-led dialogue could produce a "more pluralistic and democratic" country.

The opposition called the speech a classic case of regime "propaganda," and dismissed his calls for dialogue as not genuine.

"While the brutal and delusional Syrian regime continues to pay lip service to diplomacy, its actions over the past 18 months have demonstrated beyond any doubt that they have no interest in meaningful reform or dialogue" Radwan Ziadeh, a U.S.-based spokesman for the chief opposition group, the Syrian National Council, said in a statement.

Al-Moallem argued in his address that his regime is confronting a myriad of conspiracies by internal and external forces determined to end the Assad family's 40-year rule. But al-Moallem made clear that Bashar Assad has no intention of relinquishing the presidency.

Armed groups were inciting civilians in border areas to flee to neighboring countries "to fabricate a refugee crisis," al-Moallem said.

Up to 3,000 Syrians are leaving the country every day, said Vincent Cochetel of the U.N. refugee agency. Some 300,000 Syrians are registered, or waiting to register with the U.N. in Turkey, Jordan, Iraq and Lebanon and the agency expects the number to grow to 700,000 by the year's end.

Al-Moallem called for a Syrian-led dialogue to agree on a roadmap to "a more pluralistic and democratic Syria."

His call, similar to other overtures made by Assad's regime, is unlikely to be heeded by the opposition.

Most opposition factions have repeatedly dismissed the government's purported peace initiatives as propaganda intended to buy time. They say they will accept nothing less that Assad stepping down as a precondition for talks.

But on many other points, the Syrian opposition's political factions and the rebel groups fighting on the ground are deeply divided.

Mokhtar Lamani, the Damascus representative of the new U.N.-Arab League peace envoy to Syria, said Monday that the large number of rival rebel and opposition groups is one of the main obstacles to Lakhdar Brahimi's goal, which is to broker an end to the Syrian crisis.

A vast array of such groups inside and outside the country has been dogged by infighting and mutual accusations of treachery. The rebels include army defectors and gunmen who work under the rag-tag Free Syrian Army.

Lamani told The Associated Press in an interview that a peace deal is difficult because of the "high level of mistrust between all parties."

Brahimi, a veteran Algerian diplomat, waded into Syria's complicated diplomatic landscape last month when he replaced Kofi Annan, the former U.N. chief whose peace plan for Syria failed to end the violence that activists say has so far killed more than 30,000 people.

Brahimi, who visited Damascus last month, will pay a second visit to Syria soon and will tour the country, Lamani said. Asked whether he still sees hope of a political solution in Syria despite the bloodshed, Lamani said that's why he's in Damascus ? "because I hope that in the end there would be some light."

At the United Nations, al-Moallem denounced international interference in domestic affairs under the pretexts of "humanitarian intervention" or the "responsibility to protect" civilians from possible war crimes and crimes against humanity.

His attack clearly was aimed at the U.S., Britain and France and their support for the revolution in Libya that ousted Moammar Gadhafi.

"Permanent members of the Security Council, who launched wars under the pretext of combating terrorism now support terrorism in my country," he said.

The Security Council's major powers are deeply divided over the 18-month Syria conflict. Russia and China, key backers of Assad, have vetoed three resolutions by the U.S., Britain and France, who back the opposition and want a political transition.

Some of the heaviest fighting Monday took place in the northern city of Aleppo, Syria's cultural and commercial capital, where rebels recently launched a new offensive. Opposition groups put the death toll at between 40 and 95.

Northwest of Aleppo, government warplanes bombed the town of Salqin, some four miles (six kilometers) from the border with Turkey in Idlib province, which has seen intense clashes between government troops and rebels in recent months. Activist groups said the death toll there was between 21 and 30.

The state-run news agency SANA said dozens of "terrorists" were killed in Salqin, including some non-Syrian foreign fighters.

For the time being I have no set idea for a role play, but my mind's rather...Crazy. xP I can come up with an idea fast and run with it. Though, I love hearing ideas from others, so please feel free to shoot me a PM about something. Like stated above I'm up..down for anything! :D I like playing either gender, male or female. Recently I've been portraying males more often than females. That I do not mind, it's fun portraying them. HOWEVER, I would appreciate it if my partner(s) were able to portray BOTH genders. I, usually, like to double-up on genders in role plays. Speaking of which, I have a small list of things I require my partner(s) to be able to do. Nothing too serious, I promise. :) ::

ONE- Like in the title, I prefer, require, my role playing partner(s) to be LITERATE, as in: Proper grammar, spelling, punctuation, and so forth. I understand the mistakes, I make a lot myself, but just try, okay? Along with that, I require a three paragraph post(per character) as a minimum. I write that much for my characters, usually, if not more unless I'm having a little writers' block.
TWO- Be able to play both genders fairly well. Unless homosexual, I do not want to see a supposedly heterosexual man running around giggling. C'mon people! >_
THREE- Be able to post AT LEAST twice a week, maybe more than once a day. Please, please, please do not ditch me after one or two posts. If you gotta be gone for awhile, tell me. I understand life comes first. I have a family and friends, too. :P Plus, we all get sick: LIFE HAPPENS! That being said, I'll alert you when I must be gone as well. ^.^
FOUR- Give me ideas and have an input on ideas and characters! :D I want things strongly character-based, and I want things interesting!!! Tell me if something is not going how you like it, we can work something out. I want a creative amigo!!!!

FSA set to clamp down on 'back-door' listings

LONDON (Reuters) - Britain's financial regulator will set out on Tuesday stricter rules for reverse takeovers and tighter requirements for stock market listings as part of a broader drive to protect investors.

The United Kingdom Listing Authority, which operates under the Financial Services Authority (FSA), plans to outline proposals to change British listing rules following a consultation launched in January this year.

The regulatory changes come days after Bumi , an Indonesian coal venture that was subjected to a reverse takeover and listed on the London Stock Exchange , launched an inquiry into potential irregularities in more than $500 million of funds.

The use of reverse takeovers - where a private company takes over a public one in order to bypass the complex and lengthy listing process - to fast-track London Stock Exchange listings for companies based in emerging markets has been criticised for posing risks to shareholders, particularly those investing passively through funds tracking key indices.

The Financial Services Authority (FSA) said in January the new rules outlined in a consultation paper would help clamp down on such practices.

"The proposed changes will ensure that reverse takeovers cannot be used as a ?back-door' route to listing for companies that would otherwise be ineligible," the FSA said in a statement at the time.

The FSA reforms follows a similar step to increase investor protection taken in December by the FTSE Group, which runs the blue-chip FTSE 100 index.

The FTSE Group said it was tightening rules governing entry to its indices in order to protect minority investors and stop companies with poor corporate governance from exploiting loopholes.

FTSE said companies which want to be included in its UK indices -- including the FTSE 100 -- must ensure at least 25 percent of their shares are freely tradeable.

Dear lord. This is going to be long so fair thee warned.

Overall I had a fantastic trip with very little hiccups. I broke my newish phone on the second day of my trip which was very very cathartic actually. All my message history wiped. Start fresh. Ready to build the life of people I want in it. My flights were all great. I missed my JFK>SFO flight as I didn't know they CLOSE bag check in an hour early. No biggy.

So where was I? I had just gotten to NYC. NYC was freaking amazing. The first time I went there I was sick of travelling and really grouchy and couldn't stand the crowd crush. This time was the opposite. I stayed in the West Village (my favourite) and had a bike so pedalled everywhere. This is what I'm going to do AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE now. Cycling a city is the best way to get around.

New York is pretty much the bomb. I spent 5 days blissed out pedalling around in the sunshine eating gluten free bagels, vegan sundaes and reading books in Central Park. Next stop was San Francisco for a heavy party weekend. The less said about that the better and then a road trip to Portland. I finally broke my USA driving cherry and it was fine I don't know why I was so worried. Portland is a haul and we took two girls on a ride share up so it took longer than expected so we stayed overnight outside Eugene.

Driving along the wild and ravaged coast of Oregon was *that* experience. So, so wonderful. Portland is stunning and I had a ball. Have quite a few friends up there so we partied and did some nature things which I'll talk about soon enough.

Things that worked brilliantly - getting a SIM card with data. It was expensive ($100) but SO worth it. Yelp pretty much sorted me out with anything to eat and Google maps helped me get around. Google maps in the States is off the hook. It calculates ANYTHING for you - public transport and cycling routes were perfect. I'll be writing an international travel post to compliment the domestic one soon enough.

THE BIGGEST DIFFERENCE WAS TAKING MY OWN FOOD EVERYWHERE. Being that super prepared girl scout vegan like in the bad old days actually made my life heaven. I took extraordinary meals on the plane with me and I really think it helped my health, my stomach and my overall well being. You eat when you want to eat and not only what you can salvage. Highly recommend it.

By the end of NYC I was pretty much over food. For the rest of the trip I subsisted on beans and rice. There is really only so much newness you can take. Over stimulation. Anyway be prepared for posts from 'sNice, stogo, caravan of dreams, the cinnamon snail, voodoo doughnut?and homegrown smoker.

Yes they finally did it. Matt Stone and Trey Parker made their Broadway musical and it is a doozy. Co written with Robert Lopez (Avenue Q) it's as searing and discomforting as you think it would be (and more actually). There's something really... wonderful about an audience being broken like that.

They start off laughing heartily (the musical is designed like a Disney musical so the audiences familiar cues are all there) and by intermission they were all sitting there jaw dropped, stony faced legs crossed. I don't know why I didn't expect this to be as brutally political as it is, I guess no one else did either.

There's so many layers to this play it's quite amazing. They did a really good job of living up to their politics as well, setting The Book of Mormon in Africa ensured an equally black/white cast and the casts diversity within that is really inspiring. That and a fat dork is the hero. I love those boys. Was it worth $155 (that was the cheapest ticket I could get) ultimately yes. Watching their minds work with a full cast is extraordinary.

I'm guessing we'll get a production? I call Ash Flanders for the role of Elder Price. He would be beyond perfect.

After a long couple of days of driving and diabetic shock at Voodoo it was really nice to take some time out and hang out in Lan Su garden in Portland. We also spent an hour in the tea house just hanging out and trying a couple of teas. It really restored the sanity. Recommend it if you go to Portland.

OH MY GOD. GO THERE. I'm always on the make to play the Guns n Roses pinball machine (in my opinion the best pinball of all time). Sadly Ground Kontrol didn't have it but I could have easily spent all day there. Classic arcade games and pinball all for a quarter, it was completely dreamy.

I have a lot to say about this but I don't even know where to start. I feel like Paul Thomas Anderson's films really reflect the?evolutionary introspection?we go through - but I guess particularly in the male way. Boogie Nights - what is the nature of sexuality, gender and commodification. Magnolia - what is the nature of existence? The balance point between letting fate unfold and taking control. Punch Drunk Love (haven't seen it yet - rectifying that tonight). There Will Be Blood - what is mans nature/obsession?with power and the earth. And now finally The Master - what is man's obsession with the nature of human beings and the power over them. Where is the balance point between the precognitive multiplying cell to the spirit?

I feel like I can't even give this film a rating because it sits outside all other film. It is frustrating,?excruciating?and poetic - a meditation.

Joaquin Phoenix is just unbelievable. He HAS to be the most underrated actor of this time. If he doesn't win ALL THE AWARDS EVER for this a deep injustice will be done. Damn boy those scorpio eyes: wet, seductive and reptilian. Makes me want to shave my hair and give it to the ocean. Sacrifice myself to the succubus.

Each page is filled with beautifully detailed sketches of every stage of dish, complemented by easy-to-follow instructions. The combination of clear images and a scarcity of lengthy descriptions immediately makes the cooking process less intimidating.

In Ashley?s introduction to the book, she clearly states that the recipes are not for the ?dedicated domestic chef?. And she?s right; this is not a book for anyone looking for a challenge in the kitchen, and it?s not exactly bursting with ideas for those wanting to experiment with molecular gastronomy. Yet for the first year- student heading off to university, this is a great cooking companion.

It covers all the classics, from tomato soup and risotto to shepherd?s pie and gooseberry crumble, as well as providing recipes for more exciting choices, like fish in foil parcels and ile flottante.? Other than inclusions like aduki bean burgers (your chances of finding an aduki bean in Durham Tesco Metro are on a par with locating Justin Bieber in store) and syllabub (ginger syrup definitely wasn?t knocking around in my student cupboard last time I checked), these are recipes which generally utilize easy-to-find ingredients. It?s also a great buy for any veggie students, who are likely to be tempted by offerings including pumpkin and chickpea curry, lentil soup and fresh pesto.

Finally, and perhaps most importantly, it?s a good value buy; at only ?10, this is a lot cheaper than your average cookbook. It?s also light, which means it stands a chance of making it on the home-to-university trip in the first place. The same can?t be said for a publication like Heston?s ?The Big Fat Duck Cookbook?, which weighs in at a casual 11.6 pounds (the size of a small turkey, let alone a big fat duck).

Ashley?s recipe collection may lack glamour and high-res images, but that?s likely to be reassuring for the amateur chef; ultimately, our pear cake is never going to look like Lorraine Pascal?s, so why build expectations in the first place? ?Recipes from the Kitchen Drawer? is a book which, in its sheer understatement, makes it an outright winner for first time cooks.

Amazon's shiny new Kindle Paperwhite will start trickling out of the company's myriad warehouses in short order, but it seems e-reading rival Barnes & Noble won't let Amazon set foot in the illuminated e-reader market unanswered. To that end, B&N has announced that it has cut the price of its conceptually similar Nook SimpleTouch with GlowLight from $139 to $119 ? the same price as Amazon's ad-supported Paperwhite model.
