New Delhi (ABC Live):The International Monetary Fund, the China Society for Finance and Banking, and the Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER) are all set to hold a high-level conference on ?China and India?Sustaining High Quality Growth? in New Delhi, India, on March 19?20, 2012.
The two-day conference will bring together policy makers, leading academics, and private sector representatives and provide an opportunity to discuss the growth successes of China and India, Asia?s engines of growth.
IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde will participate in the closing roundtable discussion. The conference will be opened by India?s Finance Minister Hon. Pranab Mukherjee, with keynote remarks from the India and China delegations.
The conference will focus on identifying the policies that are key to sustaining strong and inclusive growth over the medium term in India and China. Can China and India continue on their respective development paths and what are the lessons they can learn from each other?
What financial reforms are needed in China and India in light of the global financial crisis? How can these two countries cope with periods of global financial instability? How can poverty and inequality be reduced and sufficient resources allocated to these goals? The conference will debate these and other issues.
The conference is part of the strengthened ongoing engagement between the IMF and Asia and one of a series of high-level events in the region ahead of the IMF-World Bank Annual Meetings to be held in Tokyo, Japan, in October 2012.
