A high school senior that has just received an acceptance letter from the Christian school of his choice is thrilled and excited to tell everyone his great news. But he and his family likely feel stressed as well. The fee for a college education has grown much faster than the cost of living and most salaries these days. A student and his family will need some financial help, but where would they find it?
The federal government provides a variety of loan and grant programs. Government school loans must be repaid. Federal government grants are free, but they can be tough to get. The eligibility requirements are generally quite strict, and many say that the grants don?t satisfy the financial needs of the students who get them. Scholarships, obviously, are also free, but many in existence have some pretty stringent or obscure conditions. A student who?s been accepted into a Christian college should start looking into getting financing through Christian scholarships.
Many denominations provide scholarships through their national or state offices. Sometimes various groups within a denomination will fund scholarships for students who are active in the denomination or who want to study to become a minister or a church leader. These types of scholarships often have just a few eligibility requirements and may be given to just about anybody who makes a request, but they generally meet just a portion of a student?s financial needs for a school term.
A number of Christian colleges have NCAA recognized sports teams. A male or female student athlete gifted in such sports as football, basketball, soccer, hockey, baseball or several other sanctioned sports may be eligible for an athletic scholarship. The student must meet NCAA eligibility requirements just as his rivals at secular universities do.
If a student and his family are able to do some work, they can find a number of different scholarships available from the college he?ll be going to or from various Christian organizations. Some organizations focus their scholarship giving on students who will be studying to become ministers or career Christian leaders.
Other types of christian scholarships are available to children of career Christian workers, like missionaries or ministers. These scholarships created to help families who have willingly taken on financial hardships to offer Christian service.
Needless to say, the college the student plans to attend is a great source of scholarships. In addition to general scholarships, the institution?s different areas of study frequently offer financial aid to students within their programs.
