Racing4Vets.org Launches First Campaign for Wounded Warrior to Attend Motorsports Program

Racing4Vets.org has launched its first campaign to send combat-injured U.S. Army wounded warrior John Vann to race driver training in the first stage of its newly-created motorsports career program.

Racing4Vets.org has launched its first campaign to send combat-injured U.S. Army veteran John Vann to attend race driver training school in the first step of its newly-created motorsports career program. John will participate in his first High Performance driver training program run by the National Auto Sport Association at Virginia International Raceway VIR from October 12-14, 2012.

John Vann is a U.S. Army Senior Staff Sergeant (retired) who served in Iraq. In 2005 his vehicle was destroyed by an improvised explosive device (IED), causing severe physical injuries, traumatic brain injury (TBI) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). He spent nearly 3 years in recovery, including participation in the Veterans Administration National Veterans Sports Clinics and Team River Runner kayaking sports programs.

Racing4Vets.org assists combat-injured U.S. military veterans get directly involved in motorsports by leveraging the power of the motorsports community. Racing4Vets is building motorsports job training and competition programs for automobile and go-kart racing, technical skill-building, and career outreach assistance for disabled veterans within the motorsports industry. The programs are being designed for combat-injured veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces, National Guard, Reserves, and Coast Guard.

Racing4Vets is holding a nationwide fundraising campaign to support John Vann's training. His three goals are to participate directly in auto racing, start an automotive business where he can create jobs for wounded warriors, and inspire other combat-injured veterans to get involved in motorsports for competition and job opportunities.
