TOLEDO, Oct. 5, 2011 ? The Toledo-Lucas County Public Library today announced it received a $75,000 grant from the PNC Foundation to teach area children lessons in spending, sharing and saving and equip parents to reinforce the lessons at home. PNC provided the funding in support of Grow Up Great, its bilingual program in early childhood education.

The learning program, called For Me, For You, For Later: Financial Education Programming for Young Children, will include:
? A three-part series of parent/child storytime classes offered at 14 library branches
? Targeted outreach visits to daycare centers and preschools in neighborhoods without public storytime classes
? Financial literacy fairs for parents and children in neighborhoods that do not offer public storytime classes
? Distribution of PNC?s For Me, For You, For Later! kits, developed in 2011 by Sesame Workshop, the creators of Sesame Street, in partnership with PNC Grow Up Great. For Me, for You, for Later are free bilingual, multimedia DVD kits featuring Elmo, Cookie Monster, and their Sesame Street friends that teach the basics of spending, saving, and sharing.

? Creation of financial literacy mobile learning centers in 20 library locations
? Financial literacy books and materials for parents and children

?It is never too early to begin teaching the foundations for skills that children will use throughout their lives. The Library and PNC are ready partners in this important concentration on early literacy concepts that will help children to think about choices, values and the importance of working hard to earn money to buy the things they want and need in life,? said Clyde Scoles, Director of the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library.

The grant from the PNC Foundation, which receives its principal funding from The PNC Financial Services Group, Inc. (NYSE: PNC), will allow the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library to positively impact local families through 78 storytime workshops expected to reach 1,000 children and 700 parents; family financial fairs and additional story classes serving 500 children and 250 parents; and outreach and in-library programs for preschools and daycare centers reaching 1,500 children and 150 teachers. During the two-year grant period, young children will have access to early financial literacy activities through the mobile learning centers at each library location.

PNC recently announced the extension of Grow Up Great by $250 million over 10 years to strengthen existing programs in math, science and the arts and reach more children, families and teachers. Considered one of the most comprehensive corporate school readiness programs of its kind, it has earned national recognition for programming through $40 million in grants to numerous non-profit organizations and other PNC funded initiatives.

?A growing number of researchers and educators believe that financial education should start early in life,? said PNC Regional President Brian Bucher. ?Through this initiative, we can help young children better understand that everything has value and show parents how to turn everyday moments into financial learning experiences for their kids.?
